Dear Mummy, every year for the past 3 years you’ve been taking me to see the roses at Mottisfont in Romsey, Hampshire. It’s an 18th-century home with a medieval priory owned by The National Trust and we’ve had many adventures here. Every year in June, Mottisfont host an internationally renowned heritage collection of 19th century roses which draws crowds in from far and wide. The display is in the walled garden and you can see why people choose to spend hours sitting in the sun admiring the views.
The roses flower just once a year so I made sure mummy booked some time in the calendar for us to see this unrivalled show. It’s a great day out as there is so much to see and do. We’re also members of the National Trust, so we gain free entry. Here’s a photo snapshot of our day out. I’ve changed a lot since my first visit to Mottisfont when I was 4 months old!
We start off by having a picnic on the lawn in front of the house. It’s a very chilled out affair with only the ducks to bother us! A lot of people are also having picnics with wine! On a Monday afternoon!! *Ahhhh the life!**
Afterwards we seek out the roses. Acclaimed horticulturist Graham Stuart Thomas designed and planted the rose garden and brought his unique collection of shrub roses to Mottisfont in 1972. The walled garden is one of only 6 in the world to be in the Rose Garden Hall of Fame. Woweee mummy I feel privileged to see it!
I like using the paving stones as stepping-stones and we spend a lot of time in the walled garden hunting for fairies amongst the flowers.
I find it hard to resist touching the soft petals of the flowers and I am mesmerised by their beauty. They hold some strange power over me and stop and stare. I’m told to be gentle with them by my mummy.
We posed by the glorious Kathleen Harrop climbing roses in the Frameyard.
‘Mme Alfred Carriere’ roses climb over the walls and the arches and are a beautiful pale pink rose, they were a Victorian favourite. We see them everywhere in the walled garden at Mottisfont. Roses aren’t the only blooms showing off in the gardens, there are also beautiful irises and shrubs which act as a backdrop to the display.
It’s very relaxed in the gardens and there is a gentle hum of people chatting, just like the humming of bees which collect pollen from the flowers. The roses will be in bloom until the end of this month and Mottisfont have extended their opening hours on some of the evenings, so make sure you visit after work or at the weekend to take in this stunning display. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/mottisfont
We had a fabulous time and can’t wait to go back next year and enjoy the display. It’s become quite an annual pilgrimage for my mummy and I. It’s lovely for my mummy to look back and see how much I’ve grown as well as the roses! We hope you like our photos!

ear mummy, phew! What a mad couple of weeks it’s been recently. We’ve linked up with Makedoandpush for her fabulous #TWTWC (The week that was captured) and a lot has happened since our last #TWTWC post. Over the Bank Holiday Weekend we visited Marwell Wildlife (zoo) to see their Rise of the Dinosaurs event. I stayed in the very relaxing Marwell Hotel overnight with my mummy and daddy. I conducted my first interview with the penguin zoo keepers at Marwell. Also on the Bank Holiday weekend we went to Highclere Castle Country Show to see the medieval knights and go bird spotting.
I treated my mummy to a coffee in Costa and we had a natter and a catch up after nursery. My mummy made Turtle new den out of a cardboard box. It started to heat up in the garden so we dined alfresco with my new table and chairs. We visited The Vyne (National Trust) for their Tudor weekend and enjoyed a yummy hog roast. Mummy took me to see the roses at Mottisfont (National Trust) and we also went to see some ninah’s and police officers at Families Day. All in all a very busy, but fun couple of weeks. Stay tuned for more action packed adventures!

Dear Mummy, what’s all this then? Why are you taking photos of my clothes? Ahhh it’s the third instalment of the new Thursday Linky from IcklePickles called #Bootd. I’m a bit late this week 😉 It’s a link up for all 0-5’s to show off what they are wearing for their favourite outfit of the week! *Cue fashionable children! Well it would be rude not too! So my outfit of the week is titled “Double-Denim”.
My beautiful photo shoot backdrop is Mottisfont in Hampshire and you can read about my visit here. So I’ll start from the bottom…. I’ve nearly grown out of my ECCO Silver Boots with neon pink laces (I live in them!) My denim playsuit is from Baby GAP and my socks are from Mothercare. My mummy wants my playsuit with ditsy small flowers but it wasn’t available in her size!! Join back next week for some more fashionable fun 🙂 Bella x
Dear Mummy, I’ve linked up with makedoandpush for her weekly TWTWC linky. It’s basically my week in pictures. We’ve been up to so much since last week so I have loads to share with you!
This was the week I got new shoes from Freeheelin in Stockbridge, the week I visited Mottisfont, a favourite National Trust haunt of of mine and I made my first Easter Bonnet!!
We also visited Bournemouth for the first time (in wet and windy weather!!) and went to see the fisheys at Bournemouth Oceanaruim.
I produced my first ever review on Cloud B’s Twilight Turtle and saw some massive green turtles at the aquarium.
Phew, a really busy week! If you’d like to keep up with my adventures visit me on twitter at @dear_mummy

Dear Mummy, it’s a wet and blustery day and I’ve been confined to the house all morning. We hear from friends that at Milestones Museum, the Lego Lost World Zoo has come to town! We decided to head down to the museum, it’s been plugged heavily on #museumweek and looks like a fun way to spend our afternoon.
I’m a bit young to play with Lego yet as the pieces are too small and fiddly for my small hands, but mummy thinks it would be nice to see the Lego sculptures.
Milestones Museum of Living History is located in Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK. It is made up of a network of streets that have been recreated like those found in Victorian and 1930s Hampshire. It was opened in 2000 and funded by the National Lotttery.
It is filled with Victorian terrace houses, shops and vehicles and it’s very own Victorian pub! I love looking at all the classic cars and walking along the cobbled streets. I had to watch my footing though as I kept tripping on the uneven floor while looking around at all the attractions.
The museum is suitable for all ages, with plenty to keep the whole family occupied. Younger visitors can explore the museum’s specially created Post Office and explore the museum through a range of I-Spy trails. Older visitors can enjoy a trip to the Gramophone shop – and hear favourite tunes from years gone by. People were even making themselves at home by sitting in the comfy chairs in the period rooms.
My favourite shops were the old fashioned sweet store and the toy museum terrace house. We even stopped by the Baverstock Arms pub on Jubilee Street as we heard music coming from inside. We looked through the window and saw a lovely lady playing music on the piano.
We went inside and I had a little dance on the creakily wooden floor boards. She played ‘wind the bobbin up’ for me and I jigged up and down. I even had my first Piano lesson from the lovely lady.
The Lego Lost World Zoo exhibition was integrated within the Milestones Hampshire museum displays and we found the Megalosaurus in the Mottisfont Paint works room, hidden away in a corner. Wow mummy, he must have taken ages to make! In fact he took one person six weeks to make!! He was built with over 27,000 Lego pieces.
He was very impressive! The Lego exhibition includes fun fact sheets and games for children which is great fun.
I toddle around to the far side of the museum and we are transported from Victorian times into the 1930’s, 40’s and beyond. Mummy is taken with the old fashioned sweet shop too, which is open and trading to the public. We also see the bandstand with wartime bunting and classic vehicles.
While we are strolling around we visit the gramophone shop, the toy store, the camera shop and the cycle shop which all display goods from past times. It’s very interesting and mummy could spend all day here!
It seems strange seeing two individual attractions, the Lego exhibit and the old fashioned Hampshire museum, but I think it works really well. We head back to the show ground, where a man is building a large Lego Woolly Mammoth! We watch him for a little while then I spot the larger Lego bricks and I get the urge to built something!
I’m not allowed to play with the smaller Lego bricks, but luckily Mikestones Museum have laid on tables for under 3’s. Good thinking!
All in all, a good afternoon spent at Milestones museum, Hampshire. So much to see and do we didn’t get round to seeing half if it! Well worth a visit.
