42nd Street at Mayflower Theatre

Come and meet those dancing feet… I was transported to 1930s Broadway at Mayflower Theatre last night! @mayflowertheatre

42nd Street is one of the most successful and longest running Broadway musicals ever! I was lucky enough to see it on tour at my local theatre.

The musical follows a young woman from small-town America, called Peggy Sawyer (played by a ridiculously talented Nicole-Lily Baisden), who arrives in New York City with a dream to make it big on Broadway and see her name in lights!

However her journey takes an unexpected turn when she catches the eye of a big time theatre director Julian Marsh (played by Michael Praed) and lands a spot in the chorus line of Broadway’s newest show.

And when the leading lady Dorothy Brock (played by Samantha Womack) gets injured, Peggy seizes her chance at stardom. ⭐️ *Ooooo I love a bit of drama!*

I adored this success story, as Peggy took centre stage in the golden age of Broadway.

42nd Street is theatre at it’s best. It was a jaw-dropping spectacle and I was in awe throughout the show at the amazing tap dancing. I loved my first experience of seeing this classic musical.

I smiled and laughed at the comedy, and held my breath when Peggy made her debut as the leading lady. 🎶 42nd Street certainly had me toe-tapping and afterwards I was humming the unforgettable musical numbers!

“Keep Young and Beautiful” and “We’re in the Money,” were my favourite songs. The accompanying set design and sparkling costumes were beautiful. 🎶 “Lullaby of Broadway,” and the iconic “Forty-second Street,” had me transfixed at the dancers musicality and show-stopping choreography.

The whole cast were extremely talented and I was brilliantly surprised at Faye Tozer who carried off the role of Maggie Jones perfectly with added tap dancing to boot. Sam Lips who played Billy Lawlor also did a cracking job – man, he can dance! It was nice seeing Les Dennis bring the comedy to stage as Bert Barry too.
