Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Mayflower Theatre

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s off to Southampton we go! We kicked off our 2023 Pantomime season with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre, with a very glitzy red carpet press night.

We love a good Pantomime and Mayflower Theatre always pulls out the stops. This year the amazing set design and elaborate dance routines stole the show!

From a flying sleigh with reindeers to a ginormous dragon which emerged from the stage and into the stalls, our jaws dropped. Indoor pyrotechnics fizzed from the stage and snow fell from the celling, the Seven Dwarfs ran through the auditorium and water guns blasted us.

Leading the cast of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity and I couldn’t contain my excitement when they hit the stage with perfectly choreographed street dancing and great comic timing. Ashley Banjo (Prince Ashley) with Perri & Jordan (Palace Guards), held their own on stage with the rest of the dance troop.

Pantomime legend, Christopher Biggins (Man in the Mirror), glided onto stage in the most amazing mirror suit and swing.

He had us in stitches with his cameo appearances throughout the performance. It would have been lovely to see more of him in the show.

Musical theatre stars Rachel Stanley (Queen Dragonella) and Kirsty Ingram (Snow White) brought the classic singing to the show and it was lovely hearing snippets from the original Snow White score.

However standout performer of the evening was comedian Kev Orkian (Muddles the Jester). His enthusiasm and energy carried us through the story. I must admit I was also impressed with his dancing skills – Diversity better watch out!

All the hallmark slapstick elements were there, including a VERY funny sketch with Muddles, Prince Ashley, Perrie & Jordan which had us howling with laugher. I was more amazed at their timing and how everything was perfectly synchronised.
