It was such a treat seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang @mayflower_theatre as it kicked off its UK Tour.
We were invited for press night which was filled with fun and laughter @chittyontour
This musical is based on Ian Fleming’s tale and the classic 1968 film, the story revolves around an inventor called Caractacus Potts and I loved seeing all his crazy inventions come to life.
With the help of his children Jemima and Jeremy he restores a broken-down old racing car. Soon the family discover the car has magical powers, and along with the delectable Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts, they end up on a fantastical adventure to Vulgaria.
This musical has lots of memorable songs like Toot Sweets, Hushabye Mountain, Truly Scrumptious and of course Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which had me toe-tapping and hand-clapping with glee.
There was an audible gasp of disbelief from the audience when Chitty Chitty Bang Bang came to life and soared into the air during the performance. It rotated 360 and almost tilted on its axis on stage. I was mesmerised by the mechanics behind the set design. From teeny tiny miniatures to huge props, pyrotechnics and elaborate costumes, the show was a feast for the eyes.
The cast were top-notch too with Adam Garcia as the inventor Caractacus Potts, Liam Fox as eccentric Grandpa Potts, Ellie Nunn as Truly Scrumptious and Charlie Brooks as the creepy Childcatcher. However the amazing Vulgarian comedy double-act Adam Stafford as Boris and Michael Joseph as Goran stole the show for us and had us rolling *literally in the aisle* with laughter. All the child performers were super talented and it was a pleasure seeing them perform.
My folks loved Martin Callaghan and Jenny Gayner who played Baron and Baroness of Vulgaria. The choreography was fun and lively. Our favourite numbers were Toot Sweets and Me Ol’Bamboo being performed perfectly.
It’s definitely a fun-filled hit for all the family, we throughly enjoyed it.
