Wicked On Tour at Mayflower Theatre Southampton

[AD] One Short Day in the Emerald City… One gloriously green evening with @mayflower_theatre

We were transported to Oz, via Southampton, to see @wickeduk and had a magical time at the press night.

Wicked The Musical is a magical story of the witches of Oz, Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. It makes a great prequel to the Wizard of Oz story.

It’s a heart-warming story of female friendship, school days rivalries, love triangles and a dodgy Wizard whose powers aren’t all they seem to be..

We’ve seen Laura Pick already as Elphaba in London. Her voice is powerful with oodles of emotion, enough to bring tears to our eyes. ‘Defying Gravity’ we were on the edge of our seats!

Carl Man as Fiyero was so cool, with slicker dance moves to match. ‘As Long As You’re Mine’ was a super charged number with wonderful acting and singing.

Sarah O’Connor was a brilliant Glinda, funny and complex. Her rendition of ‘Popular’ and ‘I’m Not That Girl’ (reprise) really showcased her duality and depth. She was our favourite from this show.

Wicked is one of a kind, with BIG themes and an undercurrent of topics highlighted like bullying, human rights, racism, freedom of speech and the danger of dictatorships. It made for fascinating conversations after the curtain went down.

Wicked has an extremely strong and exceptional cast and all the cast members give excellent performances. Simeon Truby is The Wizard, Donna Berlin is Madame Morrible, Megan Gardiner is Nessarose and Jed Berry is Boq. Bravo!

Everything is so polished in this production, from the immaculate costumes, tight choreography and glittering characters. It was a feast for my eyes…and ears!

The singing was out of this world and the applause unlimited. I was flabbergasted at the amount of talent on the stage. Clapping frantically at the end of each number.

Wicked is playing at Mayflower Theatre until the 16th of June before continuing its UK tour and is a great way to experience a big West End production on a local stage.
