Transforming into a Mermaid with Planet Mermaid

Dear Mummy, the mermaid and unicorn craze is still strong in our household with no sign of slowing down anytime soon. I love pretending to be a mermaid and watch YouTube films of other children (mainly American) swim around their pools with rainbow fins.

Stranded in the harbour..

On my birthday I asked my folks for a Mermaid tail, it was one of the few things I had my heart set on. My mummy hunted high and low, knocking back cheap thin fabric versions online until she came across Planet Mermaid here in the UK. It was a match made in underwater heaven, as I browsed the website and picked my favourite colour, swooned over the pictures and crossed my fingers.

Little did I know that my mummy had organised a collab with Planet Mermaid and I was surprised with a Mermaid tail on our recent trip to the beach at West Bay, Dorset …well a mermaid needs the sea right? It came presented in a beautiful box, which was relatively plain on the outside and very colourful inside. I even gasped as I opened the box much to my mummy’s delight.

Planet Mermaid Review
Rescued by mummy!

Planet Mermaid design and create mermaids’ swimwear, accessories and mermaid tails in the UK. They can be used at home, at the beach and even in swimming pools. The tails can be purchased with or without monofins, to help swim like a mermaid. I’m still learning to swim properly and even though I can manage unaided, my mummy has promised when I get my next award and crack the breaststroke and butterfly I can start using my tail to swim with.

Planet Mermaid Review and Unboxing
Dipping my fin into the sea…

I received a Sea Star Mermaid Tail £33.99 and matching leggings and top set £32 in aged 4-5 years to review. Its better not ordering a size up as these are designed to be tight and look silly loose and baggy. The prices vary depending on the size of the tail and age. My mummy can’t believe they’ve just released adult versions too! The Mermaid tail can be used in and out of water, is washable and uses chlorine resistant fabric which retains colour and doesn’t fade. We’re unsure whether the fabric is UV protective, but it might be a thing for Planet Mermaid to think about next…

Planet Mermaid Leggings Review
Drying off with the leggings and crop top set

You don’t need to buy the monofin and can just wear the tail as hanging fabric but it does look super cool with a rigid fin and we’d definitely recommend shelling out (excuse the pun) for the whole package. You’re only a mermaid once right?

The monofin is made out of sturdy neoprene, like a wetsuit and when we took it to the beach a lot of people commented on how cool it was. The leggings and crop top were decent quality and not see through like cheaper leggings we’d seen.

Watch my unboxing video on IGTV to see it in action!

Sea Star Mermaid Tail Review

My mummy loved the Planet Mermaid Products so much that she ordered an adults legging and halterneck set off the website too as fancy dress for Camp Bestival this year! We can’t wait to show you our mermaid festival cart and outfits later in the summer.

Love Bella x

Disclosure: I was provided with these mermaid products in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and underwater adventures are our own.

  1. This is so cute, if I was younger I would definitely have wanted to try this, although even as an adult it’s quite tempting x

  2. Oh my goodness I have never seen anything like this before, it looks great though. Being UV is fab too. I am glad you enjoyed it so much. Thank you for joining us at #familyfun
