Easy Peasy Gingerbread men

Dear mummy, a couple of weeks back we baked Devils Food Cake (Chocolate Cake) in the attempt to keep up with the Great British Bake Off series which is airing on telly at the moment. We’re not very good at baking so we are trying out easy peasy recipes that even a toddler can do!Baking Gingerbread MenWe’ve just watched biscuit week and saw the contestants make amazing gingerbread houses and sculptures in their show stopper challenge. We’re going to try to recreate our own at home. However we’ve decided to make ours a bit more achievable, so we are creating simple Gingerbread Men. I sent daddy out to get the ingredients. They only take 15 minutes in a fan assisted oven to bake!Gingerbread menIngredients (makes around 15-20 gingerbread men)
350g plain flour
100g butter
5 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
175g light brown soft sugar
4 tablespoons golden syrup
1 medium eggGingerbread men

Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
Put the flour, butter, ginger, cinnamon and bicarbonate of soda in a mixing bowl. Mix it all together with fingertips until crumbly. Add the sugar, syrup and egg and mix until it forms a firm pastry mix.Baking Gingerbread MenUsing the rolling pin, roll out the pastry to about 5mm thick. Make sure the surface and the rolling pin are well dusted with flour. Use gingerbread men cutters to cut out shapes. Place the cut out pastry on a greased or non-stick baking tray.Baking Gingerbread MenBake in the preheated oven until golden, about 15 minutes. Check after 10 minutes. Gingerbread may be ready after 15 minutes in a fan assisted oven.Baking Gingerbread MenWe had great fun following this easy recipe and making out gingerbread men! They tasted great! I had fun piping the royal icing sugar onto the little biscuits, licking the icing sugar spoons and eating the gingerbread men as I went along.Baking Gingerbread Men
