Making a rainbow lunch!

Red and yellow and pink and green,
Purple and orange and blue.
I can sing a rainbow,
Sing a rainbow,
You can sing one too!

Rainbow lunch ideas

Dear mummy, I love rainbows, bright colours and anything that looks like fun. The start of the school year can be dark and gloomy for kids, so why not brighten up their days with a rainbow inspired lunch?

Hartley’s Jelly Pots is championing the back to school period with a new campaign, Hartley’s Your Lunchbox. The campaign encourages parents to be a bit more daring with their lunchbox creations for their kids and collect an exclusive Hartley’s lunchbox through its collector scheme.

Hartley’s are currently offering a chance to collect 12 special edition green lids from across the No Added Sugar Jelly Pots (115g), to claim a free Hartley’s lunchbox and stickers! Each one comes complete with a sticker sheet of Hartley’s much loved characters and a sticker alphabet for children to personalise their lunchbox. I had great fun adding stickers to my lunchbox!

Jelly Pots are the perfect size for children’s pack lunches, providing convenience and a wide range of flavours to keep the youngsters happy. Hartleys Jelly comes in a spectrum colours and we’re excited to showcase our lunchbox creation inspired by Hartleys fruity flavours. We picked the colours of the rainbow and matched our jelly pot.

We had fun making my packed lunch. I gave my mummy a hand (I am an expert in my favourite foods after all). Everyone’s tastes are different and listening to your child will help you make an extra special lunch tailored for them. These are some of our tips to make the perfect packed lunch.

  • Amazing Grazing

Like cows graze on grass, kids often pick at their greens or anything healthy. Keep the qualities small, attractive and dress up a salad. Everyone eats with their eyes first, so make you packed lunch looks scrummy!

  • Small Fingers

Diddy portions for tiny fingers. We use smaller quantities of several foods meaning I didn’t get bored and I attempted to sample everything in my lunchbox.

  • Be funny

Make it fun and appealing. I like eating my way over the rainbow to the pot of gold (AKA my treat).

  • Something Different

A great alternative to boring sandwiches are wraps and pitta’s, crackers and thins. We also like cutting sandwiches into funny shapes, layering them up with different wacky combos and toasting them.

  • Wise Words

You may not have time everyday to do this, but we like sending post-it notes to each other. My folks have been doing this for years! Make a monday extra special by sharing an uplifting quote, drawing a funny cartoon or writing a joke. Kids will appreciate the touch especially by the mid-week slump. Do not attempt with teenagers though…as they will just think you are weird!

  • Eat Me, Treat Me

The best bit of any lunch box is finding the gold, the treasure, the end goal. My mummy remembers reaching for this first and eating backwards to her least favourite food item. Yoghurt pouches, coated raisins, chocolate or biscuits can be easily hidden underneath sandwiches. Hartley’s Jelly pots make a great treat too and are the perfect size to fit in a lunch box.

So when you child isn’t looking forward to the school week… try and make a rainbow in someone’s cloud.

Love Bella x

Rainbow lunch ideas

Ideas for a rainbow pack lunch:

Red – strawberries, red peppers or tomatoes

Orange – orange segments, wotsits or carrots

Yellow – pineapple, yellow peppers or cheese

Green – green beans, grapes, cucumber or apple pieces

Blue – Blueberries or blackberries

Purple – Black or red grapes

Mix with freshly cut sandwiches or wraps with fillings like ham, cheese, jam or peanut butter in different shapes. Why not add a yoghurt or a biscuit or maybe even some fruity jelly! We used cute little cookie cutters to cut our food into shapes and silicone cups to make our mini portions.

  1. This is such a lovely creative idea! And so clever to make the entire lunch colourful. I made a fruit rainbow kebab for a picnic a few weeks ago and it was the most amazing thing, but never though to make the whole lunch so beautiful 🙂 #SharingtheBlogLove

  2. I love those jellies, the orange one is my favourite! I always used to have them in my lunches! I think it’s great to make food look as colourful as possible!

  3. I love the idea of rainbow lunches and your notes as well, so cute! I actually had a Hartleys Jelly today, great snack no matter the age

  4. What a super lunch box! We’re big fans of Hartley jelly in our house. Their 10 kcal pots are my evening go-to snack when I’m in a slimming phase.

  5. I’m a huge sucker for a rainbow – colourful food is always so much more appealing! And what child doesn’t like jelly? I know this idea would be a big hit with my son. Thanks so much for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  6. We have that lunch box and the kids loved sticking their stickers on it. I really like your idea of a rainbow lunch
