Dear Mummy, one cartoon programme that has really made a difference in my life is PJ Masks on the Disney Jnr Channel. Because it’s made me want to be a superhero…a female superhero!
“Night in the city, and a brave band of heroes is ready to face fiendish villains to stop them messing with your day!”
If you haven’t heard about PJ Masks it’s a new series which started last September. It’s an animated preschool television series produced by Entertainment One and the show is based on the Les Pyjamasques book series from French author Romuald Racioppo. The series revolves around three 6-year-old kids who lead relatively normal lives by day, where they are neighbors, classmates and friends.
At night, however, they activate their bracelets, which link into their pajamas, turning them into their alternate identities: The PJ Masks!
“Amaya becomes: “Owlette!”
“Greg becomes: “Gekko!”
“Connor becomes: “Catboy!”
“The PJ Masks!”
After their costumes appear, they all turn into energy beams which rapidly fly toward their superhero headquarters which resembles a totem pole. Together, they go on adventures, stop crimes, defeat villains such as Luna Girl, Romeo and Night Ninja to solve mysteries and learn valuable life lessons. Each exhibits a variety of super powers while in costume and return back to normal children in the daytime.
I often dream about turning into a superhero at night and fly around my bedroom flapping my arms like Owlette. She’s my favourite character and my folks get assigned the other two characters when we play after watching the show.
Connor/Catboy (voiced by Jacob Ewaniuk) transforms into the leader of the group. He wears a blue costume with cat ears and a thin feline tail. He has super-hearing using cat ears, can leap high using Super Cat Jump, and sprints fast using Super Cat Speed. My daddy likes to think he has super hearing but my mummy thinks his super power is more like selective hearing!! 😉
Amaya/Owlette (voiced by Addison Holley) is a brown-eyed girl with brown hair who wears glasses. When she transforms she wears a red costume with cape that can solidify into wings. She is able to see in the dark using her Super Owl Eyes and fly by using Super Owl Wings, which she can also use to launch gusts of air to send opponents flying backward, which she calls her Owl Wing Wind. I love Owlette and actually already have some of her superpowers, I can see in the dark and often use my power to wake my folks up in the middle of the night!
Greg/Gekko (voiced by Kyle Harrison Breitkopf) is a white green-eyed blonde-haired boy who is able to do the side splits. He is the youngest member of the Masks. When he transforms he wears a green costume with a thick reptilian tail, fins on top of his head, and suction cups on his hands. He can use Super Gekko Camouflage to change colors and blend in with his surroundings, Super Gekko Muscles to lift heavy things, Super Lizard Grip to climb walls or anchor himself to stop vehicles, and Super Lizard Water Run to walk on water. My mummy is very similar to Gekko, she can adapt to any situation using her camouflage and is used to lifting heavy items (like me) while balancing shopping bags!
My mummy is Gekko, My Daddy is Catboy and I’m Owlette and together we’re the PPJMasks (Parents in PJs). And we were super excited to host a #PJHalloweenParty ahead of the new episodes starting on the 31st October at 5:30pm on Disney Junior. We printed off free downloadables from the PJ Masks website and used them as activities for our party.
We can’t wait for the special Christmas double episodes on Saturday 3rd December too. We’re not usually fans of Apps, but there is also a new PJ Masks App that we’re intrigued about called Super City Run which makes its debut on 30th November 🙂
Have you seen PJ Masks? Do you share any superhero traits?
Love Bella xx
