This is no ordinary school uniform…
Dear Mummy, while browsing in our local M&S you stopped dead in your tracks right in front of the kidswear department. A sea of grey, black and white replaced the summer brights which were relegated to the sale rail. You’ve never paid much attention to school wear, that was until this month. You see I started school in September. I’m going to be a big girl. My mummy had put it off long enough. It was time to bite the bullet and buy my school uniform. But in M&S – this was no ordinary school uniform…
She picked out a grey pleated buttoned pinafore dress. This dress would ensure that I fitted in with the crowd, blended in at the school gates. It was my armour of invisibility helping me to seamlessly fit in with the troops of other little girls taking their first steps in big school.
A white fitted shirt with capped sleeves and peter-pan collar was next to go in the basket. The most impractical colour to ever put on a 4-year-old. But this is no ordinary white blouse. It is a blank page, a way to record my day when she’s not with me. She will read my white shirt as she puts it into the washing machine like a story. Black biro will tell her that I was practicing my handwriting, red paint was when I had messy play and the brown stain was when I was playing out in the school playing fields…oh she hoped it was that!
My black practical school shoes will tread where no parent has tread. In a Year R classroom, squeaking on the newly polished assembly floors and scuffed playing tag with my friends. The more scuffing the more fun I’ve had not standing in line or sitting still. Lastly my school socks, full of dirt, sand, glitter will let her know that she needs shares in Vanish.
No, this is no ordinary school uniform, this is MY school uniform and she can’t wait to embrace it…with me in it.
Love Bella x

This is so cute! I have always been so jealous of British kids who get to wear a uniform – there was definitely nothing like this when I was growing up in France!

The uniform looks really cute and I love the red coat that you’ve chosen. Definitely in a sea of gray and white your little girl with sparkle with that beautiful coat. 🙂

She is adorable and she looks so cute in her uniform. I hope she will have fun at school.
Aww your little girl looks lovely in her school uniform. Do like M&S as the quality is really good and will last.
I love the look of school uniforms. Our school doesn’t use them, preferring the children to express themselves as they wish (my daughter has blue tipped hair and a side shave, and she’s only 10 – the school said yes she could!), but I do think school uniforms are adorable.
Awww she looks fab in her school uniform, hope she’s settling in well x
I’ve always had mixed feelings about uniforms, but they are adorable! She looks so sweet.
she looks so sweet! I hope it’s all going well! x
Gorgeous! Don’t they look so grown up in their uniforms! #dreamteam
How is she finding school, Dawn? Oscar is absolutely hating it. I have a battle with him every morning. God knows how we ever get there on time. LOL. And I have to agree – M&S do the BEST uniform. We got all of Oscar’s from there, except his shoes, which Chatham kindly sent us to review 🙂
