Dear mummy, this is a lovely new take on an old classic and you were thrilled when Fairy Snakes and Ladders arrived from Orchard Toys during half term. We’re big fans of board games in this household and love nothing better than a game after school that’s quick to set up and easy to play.

This fun family board game has plenty of educational benefits; it develops counting skills, encourages turn-taking and group play, and promoting observation. We love the colourful designs and illustrations which are distinctive of Orchard Toys. Their games have provided us hours of fun and we have reviewed others like Animal Families and Penguin Pairs.

In the box is one double-sided playing board, 16 card counters, four fairy playing pieces, four character stands and one dice. This game is 2-in-1 and it’s simple to set up – just join together the 6 jigsaw-type pieces to make the board and you’re ready to go. One side has Fairy Snakes & Ladders where players play the traditional game of snakes and ladders but this is up an enchanted treehouse. We love the playing parts and up to four players can play using little fairies riding unicorns.

Afterwards we flipped the board over and used the counters provided in the box to play the fairy ring game of Ludo with coloured counters. The fairy ring design was pretty and help my attention as I played around the board.

It really is a super duo board game and packs away really small as the pieces allow it to. The illustrations have fairies and unicorns on, however it could do with more elves or dragons to make it a bit more unisex.

It’s £9.50 and suitable for ages 5-9, however I am younger and still had fun playing with my folks guiding me with the rules of play. It would make a great Christmas or Birthday present for a fairy lover and I loved all the rainbows and the whimsical feel.
