Dear Mummy, have you heard of Scruff A Luvs Families? As soon as I had the opportunity to rescue an abandoned pet I jumped at the chance. They arrive as a sad, matted ball of fur, but once you bathe them, dry them, brush them and love them, you’ll discover what kind of pet they really are and reveal their true beauty. I love caring for animals so the idea of nursing back to health a poorly soft toy really appeals to me.

I was really happy to find out that for every Scruff-a-Luvs family adopted, Scruff-a-Luvs will donate part of the proceeds to the RSPCA to help real animals find their ‘furever’ homes. There was information on the back of the box to show how you could get involved and look after your pet.

The concept behind this toy is a great idea. The packaging resembles an animal carry case and inside is your sad little ball of tangled fur, waiting for someone to love it. The box comes with the fluffy ball + 7 surprises, 10 surprises in all (and no I didn’t miscount, I don’t want to give the biggest surprise away). My mummy made sure I had everything ready for their arrival, some warm water, clean towels and a hairdryer to help groom them.

I loved discovering all the surprises hidden in the box. See our unboxing video. The fun bit was submerging the matted ball into water and cleaning it. It unfolded and turned into a mummy cat…. with two babies! I was over the moon and loved this special surprise hidden in her embrace.

After a good wash I dried them with the hairdryer (with my mummy’s help) and we were able to reveal the gender of the babies. When you dry their hearts you can see they can change between blue or pink. You can also wash and dry them in a dryer, keeping it on a low heat. I discovered 2 girls!

This is a lovely toy that requires real engagement as I had to be hands on to look after them and bring them to life. They are wonderfully cute and I just love playing with them as a family. Inside the box there was a birth certificate, a bottle, stickers, 2 sets of cloth nappies, a brush and a collar. I’ve also kept the box and added some blankets in, so they can live in it. Once dried the mummy pet sparkles

  1. This is a toy my girls would love to own and care for! I feel it teaches them the responsibility of taking care of a real pet. I love that some of the money from purchases goes to an awesome cause.

  2. I love the concept behind these. I might pick one up for Olivia for her birthday or for Christmas – she’d love it.
