Captains Log: Dear mummy, I’ve got some good news to share with you. We’ve been selected to be official astronauts (Bloggers) for the space programme that is Camp Bestival!

Camp Bestival 2016

We are over the moon (how many puns can I put into this post?!) and in honour of the exciting news we’re highlighting our top attractions at this years Camp Bestival.

As you can probably guess the theme of this family festival is Space. One giant leap for our family we’ve never been to Camp Bestival before. However we enjoyed four festival experiences last year so are not new to camping, live music and staying up late 😉 So without further ado, here’s what we are looking forward to in July at Lulworth Castle!

1) The ‘Outer Space’ Theme

We love themed events and can’t wait to get involved and immerse ourselves in the festival spirit of things. We’ll be entering the legendary Pimp My Trolley competition. With Outer Space-inspiration flying high, we’ve already got some great ideas. We’ll be using some of the rockets we made recently and with a Camp Bestival 2017 family ticket up for grabs for the best trolley pimper the competition is gonna be fierce. Hold on to your space rockets!

We’re also excited to be joining in with the Fancy Dress Parade at 1pm on Saturday in the Kids’ Garden. Now what to dress up as? Aliens, rockets, comets, stars and even space-pixies; the options are almost infinite!

2) Camping

Any opportunity to be outdoors in the countryside under the stars. We’re looking forward to camping in family friendly campsite. Meet our neighbours and chillax with a beer. *My folks will be drinking not me!!*

3) The Line-Up

It’s gonna be cosmic! With my folks favourites, Arrested Development, The Brand New Heavies and DJ Yoda. We can’t wait to see Katy B (even if it’s past my bedtime) she’s going to get the crowd jumping! The line-up looks fab this year! Good times!

4) The Beard Competition

My daddy has an epic beard, so he’ll be putting it through its paces at the beard competition. It’s on Saturday at 11.30am on the Catwalk in the Lower Kids Garden. Better start waxing it now then daddy! What do you win? Beard glory! May the best man triumph.

5) The Feast Collective Tent

With an interstellar food line-up we’re super excited to savour some succulent delights from the best British street food vendors at Camp Bestival! Here’s who we’re looking forward to seeing *cough* I mean eating…We’re going to be innerspace gastronauts!

The Feast Collective Tent

We can’t wait to see Seadog and taste their yummy seaside popcorn. They were the winners of the ‘Best of the Best’ prize at the 2015 British Street Food Awards so must be awesome! We also fancy trying some Vietnamese street-food with Pho Sho. The buttermilk chicken from Butchies sounds amazing too! And we can’t wait to track down their ultimate fried chicken sandwich! Other street vendors like Chocolate Bear Kitchen with their 100% gluten-free, unrefined sugar and vegan treats and African fare from Lemlem Kitchen sound tasty. It’s going to be a real food feast! Too many to mention but we’ve scoured the Camp Bestival website and there are some good-uns. We’re potentially going to have 3 days of fantastic festival food! Washed down with some yummy smoothies from S’Juice Me and refreshing ice lollies from Polar Pops.  I just hope I can get around all the food stalls in one weekend!

We’d also like to meet Luke Thomas, the UK’s youngest head chef, who was just 18-years-old when he took charge of his restaurant in Cookham. And join in with Children’s Food Ambassador, and former BBC Cook of the Year, Jo Ingleby, who will be offering Children’s Feast Collective Tasting Sessions.

No doubt we’ll be listening to some big beats and eating some big meats from DJBBQ AKA Christian Stevenson. Who’s been hosting the Feast Collective tent for years and is a veteran.

6) Learning About Space

Not only is Camp Bestival fun it’s also educational. My folks are I are looking forward to learning more about space and our solar system at Mission Control…it might come in handy for homework one of these days!

7) Kids Disco

I love a good disco, I’ve even been to my first rave this year with Little Fish Big Fish events. So can’t wait to get my groove on and enjoy dancing in a kiddie friendly disco tent!

8) The Atmosphere

It’s going to be a stellar atmosphere. Fun is the order of the day. My folks and I just need to go with the flow and do the activities that take our fancy. No rushing from place to place, this is the time to soak up the atmosphere,  enjoy the weather and the experience. Listing to hazy music waft across the fields and take snapshots of memories which will last a lifetime!

This is last years festival in all its glory! We can’t wait!

9) The Fireworks

As this is our first time to Camp Bestival we’ve heard that the fireworks that go off at the end of the event are not to be missed! So we’ll be making sure that we try to stay up to see those!

10) The Performers

My folks are super happy to learn that one of the country’s all-time great comedians, Jasper Carrott, will be joining as a comedy headliner.

Camp Bestival Comedy 2016

I can’t wait to see LazyTown Live on stage with its jam-packed performance including singing, dancing and acrobatics. We might even enter the Camp Bestival Kids Talent Show – I just need to find a talent! Everyone who enters gets a coveted Camp Bestival rosette!

Along with seeing Dick and Dom and Mr Tumble Camp Bestival is going to be a blast! So why not join me and the other cool families heading to Lulworth Castle this year? It’s going to be “Out of this world!”

Love Bella x

  1. It sounds like there’s so much to do at Bestival. We’d love to go but have our second little one due in June so planning a camping weekend probably isn’t the best idea! I hope you have a fantastic time.

  2. We always forget about the fancy dress competition, it normally
Clashes with something we are watching. Watch out for the Doctor and his crew this year – that will be us!

  3. I’d absolutely love to take my kids to Camp Bestival but I’m now a single mum and I’m not sure I could cope on my own camping with 3 & 6 year old! I’ll look forward to reading all the write-ups though and who knows, maybe with that payment plan and a bit more confidence next year might be the year… (Brand New Heavies and Arrested Development used to be faves of mine though!). X #thelist

  4. Oh my gosh this is so exciting! I’m so jealous, it looks like so much fun. I love a good festival, it’s been a while since I’ve been to one. The food all sounds yummy too.x

  5. We’re thinking of going this year, it looks amazing! I love the space theme. HOW do you get to be a Camp Bestival blogger? What an ace gig! #TheList

  6. This sounds absolutely amazing. I have been to Bestival the festival (the one that’s not a camp) and loved it, but not been to this one. I think festivals are fab places for kids. I would definitely think about taking Piglet when he’s a bit older. Thanks for linking up with #FabFridayPost

  7. Congratulations for being selected. That’s fantastic! A perfect family holiday camp, and there are so much they have packed into. How wonderful! Make the most of it and report back how you got on. Enjoy yourselves! 🙂

  9. Well done guys! I have heard so much about Camp Bestival but never been. We love camping and music so taking my boy to a festival is the next step. It looks amazing…I’m sold! Have a great time and look forward to hearing about it. Tor x #DreamTeam

  11. Ahhh it looks jam packed full of great stuff to see and do. I know you have already been, so looking forward to reading your write up on what it was like. Camping isn’t my thing, but I think this could be something that would pursuade me into giving it a go. Thanks for linking up to the #dreamteam xx
