Dear Mummy, we’re super excited that it’s May at long last. We can almost smell summer on the horizon and the days are getting longer the sky is getting bluer and the sun is shining. The last bank holiday in May is always special for us as it kicks off the start of the festival season for our little family.
Southampton’s Common People event is back, brought to you by the multi-award winning Bestival team and we can’t wait to get our glad rags on! Taking place on the Bank Holiday weekend of 27th and 28th May and set on Southampton Common, Common People is a glorious two-day metropolitan festival, bringing the spirit of Bestival right to the heart of the city. It’s like a 4-day festival rolled into 2 epic days without the hassle of camping.
Common People’s music line-up for 2017 is a feast of the finest new talent around and we’re looking forward to listening to some great live music. Famous DJs, like Pete Tong, will be spinning the decks in Southampton Common guaranteed to please the crowds and re-live hazy 90’s club classics against the city sunset.
It’s not all about the music though as Southampton Common will be transformed into an enchanted wonderland of eye-popping attractions and fun-fuelled escapism. Beautiful festival scenery will adorn the location and glisten in the midday sun. Festival flags will fly and streamers will wave making the site a sight for sore eyes!
We’re looking forward to exploring the kids area and relaxing under large trees with our picnic as the branches sway to the music of the stages in the background. Bigtop Mania Circus and the World’s Biggest Bouncy Castle are sure to be hits with the kids along with the Vintage Funfair and Spinney Hollow Bush Crafts.
We’re going to treat ourselves to exotic food from the Street Market vendors and Jam Jar Cocktails from the pop-up bars. Instagram worthy cocktails from the Sugar Skull Cocktail Bus while Samba Drummers parade around the crowds. It’s a wonderful way to spend a lazy bank holiday and a great way to kick off the festival season watching some great acts.
Ticket prices are really reasonable for everything that is included and start from £30 for a day ticket. As this is a non-camping event you don’t have to worry about lugging your tent around with you either and there are plenty of hotels in Southampton that offer fab accommodation nearby.
Gates open at 10:30 each day and wristbands give you 12 hours access to the festival.
