“Stop rushing. Slow down and enjoy the beauty of life.” Debasish Mridha
Dear Mummy, Oi! Slow down. Isn’t it time you started enjoying breakfast as opposed to woofing it down in the mornings? Your typical day involves getting up super early (before me) and heading into work, while checking emails and eating breakfast at your desk. You are often on auto-pilot in the mornings. Sound familiar? Well you aren’t alone and more people are rushing their breakfast, or *shock horror* not even eating breakfast in the mornings in the race to beat the clock.
In a recent survey conducted by Dorset Cereals they found that nearly half (49 percent) said that breakfast “is the most stressful part of the day”, with the daily rush to get out of the door taking its toll.
Sitting down for breakfast was once the norm for previous generations, my Grandma is a firm believer in enjoying a meal, however, modern life has made breakfast fall from the morning agenda, with just 8 percent making the time to come together to enjoy the first meal of the day. So my mummy has joined the #BreakfastOnTheSlow revolution with the aim to slow down and smell the coffee (or roses) whatever takes her fancy in the mornings.
According to research from Dorset Cereals the poll of 2,000 mums and dads unveiled that the rat race of the modern age has forced time-strapped parents to juggle both family life and career, leaving 71 percent of parents feeling “disconnected” from their family due to their fast and busy lives.
During the week its hard for my folks to sit down with me in the mornings (both my folks are commuters and take turns doing the school run) my family and I have vowed to enjoy a slow breakfast on weekends. So for the next couple of weeks they will be joining the nation in an effort to slow down.
Inspired by Dorset Cereals we even gave it a whirl over Mother’s Day, where I treated mummy to breakfast in bed. It was the first time in ages that she actually relaxed, read some of her book and scrolled through her phone. We plan to eat breakfast together on weekends, chat and read books – no screen time either…now that WILL be a challenge!
Of course it makes it easier to complete the #BreakfastOnTheSlow challenge when the breakfast is so delicious and good for you. Of course daddy will never give up on his fry-ups and me with my ‘Bang Bang Eggs’ however incorporating muesli with fruit and nuts is a surefire way of getting our daily dose of goodness. My mummy adores Dorset Cereals ever since we discovered their pop-up shop last year at Camp Bestival and got addicted to luscious berry & cherry muesli.
I can’t wait to set our breakfast table properly this weekend with cutlery and fresh flowers which will help us eat at a leisurely pace and *heaven forbid* chat to each other! Once the summer arrives we may even have a breakfast table in the back garden and enjoy the fresh air and birdsong with our cereal and juice.
Have you tried a slow breakfast recently? Please share it in the below comments x
Love Bella x
Disclaimer: We were kindly sent a breakfast pack from Dorset Cereals to help spread awareness of the #BreakfastOnTheSlow campaign. All tummy rumbles are our own.
I can not remember the last time I had a slow breakfast, it is strange that years ago breakfast was a family time, where everyone sat together eating breakfast before going off to school/work. Now everyone is in far too much of a rush x
I think having something special to kick off the day makes all the difference! The Dorset Cereals always look so fancy!
We are lucky as we are a home ed family so the lack of a school run takes any stress out of the meal. We are big breakfast people we chat and plan our day over breakfast.
That’s awesome! We’re very envious x
A slow breakfast would make a welcome change I always rush mine. I have tried a few of these cereals before and they were really nice. They always nave good quality ingredients and I love that the fruit included is always a good size.
I love a fry up but I know I can’t eat this every day. But I can eat oats every day so this cereal certainly appeals to me. I like any type of muesli cereal. I love the packaging too I’m no longer in England, I wonder if they’ll ship this out to me?…lol
Dorset Cereals really do some lovely breakfast items, I am a big fan of there cereals for sure, they are so tasty.
I just love the combination of ingredient in this cereal and this is something I do not see often. I will be on the lookout for this. Great post!
I really need to slow down and make time for breakfast but it just never seems to happen x
What a great idea for a challenge, I love Dorset Cereals, so many lovely combinations.
I absolutely love taking my time over breakfast! Hopefully I can still do that when I have children!!!
oh I have never come across these before yet they look like something that would go down a treat here
I love their nutty granola, it is delicious 🙂
Sometimes we don’t have time for breakfast so we too have breakfast on the go to take to work like smoothies, granola and yoghurt with fruits. I love the dorset cereals.
I do love dorset cereals and I love that little spoon they have given you too x
Taking time for breakfast is really great for mindfulness and Dorset cereals are so yummy!
This is a yummy breakfast! Anyone will love this, from children to adults.
I did have Dorset cereals before (as I live in Dorset and support local brands 🙂 ) and they are indeed tasty. I like the idea of their campaign, to eat breakfast slow. I usually do have a slow breakfast as I do work from home so I have time to prepare it. 🙂
I love this campaign! Tried Dorset cereals before and they were really filling and delicious! I like to take my mornings slow and practice mindfulness to help with my anxiety xxx
This is a great campaign. During the week I take mouthfuls of breakfast whilst simultaneously trying to get the kids ready. not the best start to the day! Definitely would love to try and slow it down a little to get me into the right frame of mind for the day. #anythinggoes
This sounds delicious and a lovely way to start the day X #anythinggoes
