Six fears conquered at BritMums Live

Six fears conquered at BritMums Live

Dear Mummy, everyone knows that going somewhere new and meeting new people can be daunting. Over the weekend you stepped out of your comfort zone and headed to London for a bloggers conference called BritMums Live.

BritMums Live Review

Here’s some of the fears you conquered over the weekend.

1) Navigating to the venue – on your own. Well done for figuring out the underground and making sure you got to the venue on time. Especially on the second day when you were running late and there were problems on the Northern and Circle Line. You diverted across several lines and managed to cross the whole of London without getting lost. Phew! You’re braver than me mummy.

2) Pre-meet nerves. Heading to the London Eye for the pre-meet BritMums Live Insta Walk was very daunting – you had no idea what anyone looked like or who was meeting up there. In a sea of tourists and large groups, at one point you were ready to turn around and head back to Waterloo Station. Luckily for you, you noticed other people who ‘looked’ like bloggers. Beautiful 1950’s dresses, phones in hands and large backpacks kinda gave it away.

3) Am I good enough syndrome. Whenever you meet other bloggers you are constantly measuring yourself up to them, you know you shouldn’t but you just can’t help yourself. Questions whirl around in your mind like “do they like me” and “have they heard of my blog”. It’s easy to get disheartened when people haven’t got a clue who you are, but also nice when people recognise you or have heard of ‘Baby Isabella’.

4) What if no-one will talk to me. It’s so hard entering a room filled with bloggers on your own. On the first day you made a beeline for the refreshments and stood by a stand nursing your drink, while glancing around the room to see if there was anyone you knew. Making the first step to approach someone and strike up a conversation takes MAJOR balls. So mummy, I congratulate you for that. You seemed to make the first move a lot over the weekend.

5) Talking to brands and not coming across as an idiot. I think you were fairly successful at this mummy. You didn’t stumble over your words and were confident at explaining your blog to people. The more you interact with people the easier it will get.

6) Leaving me behind. You are always fearful of leaving me behind and feel guilty for having some ‘you’ time. This will get easier and you are lucky to have a good family support network to help look after me.

A lot of hurdles were crossed over the weekend at BritMums Live, you feel a bit more confident as a result of it. You’ve got to know London a bit better which has made you more comfortable about travelling on your own up to the ‘big smoke’.

Well done mummy, have a pat on the back. I think you were a good ambassador for me and you did me proud.

My time at BritMums Live 2015

My time at BritMums Live and home again…

Dear Mummy, we’ve had a really unusual weekend. Very hectic and frantic but rewarding. My mummy attended a blogging conference called BritMums Live 2015 in London.

London, Southbank

She got to meet other parenting bloggers and listen to some fabulous speakers. She finally met some of her online friends and interacted with brands and PR companies. Entered some fab competitions (my mummy loves competitions and she actually won a ticket from Bella Bathrooms to attend BritMums Live)

BritMums Live

She had fun, however she felt daunted and out of her depth too. So many bloggers had travelled up together and knew each other beforehand by attending previous events and she had come alone on the train. Some were welcoming and happy to talk to my mummy over a cuppa…..some were not. One blogger in particular was looking around the room while my mummy was trying to be friendly until another came across to chat to her and she quickly left without saying goodbye. Shame as I would have liked to get to know her a little better as she’s local to us. A smile can go a long way!

BritMums Live Craft

Anywho, apart from that little hiccup my mummy had a great time. She enjoyed bumping into Em @snowingindoors and chatting while making her fabric corsage in the craft zone. Listening to some live music and absorbing the keynote speeches from other bloggers. The kindness that Grace @EatsAmazing showed her by lending her a charger.

Here are some of our photos from BritMums Live, we hope you enjoy them.

My mummy had fun on the BritMums Instagram Walk with Darren @OneDad3Girls and meet some friendly bloggers. She was amazed at the creativity from Maggy @redtedart and Ali @incredibusy with their beautiful Poppy England story book dresses and perfect Instagram poses and photos.

She had a giggle with Louise @liquoriceuk and Sarah @RunJumpScrap.

She took me with her, as I wasn’t able to attend. I appeared in some of her photos #Babyonastick hehe 😉

BritMums Live 2015

image

It was the longest she’d walked in the past 2 years! Past Southbank, over the Millenium Bridge and past St Paul’s to the Barbican Centre then onto The Brewery where BritMums Live 2015 was held.

image

It was a whirlwind couple of days. Her main highlight was making Happy Hearts at the Embrace Happy Session with Pippa @storyofmum and Karin @embracehappy and I think that session resonated with a lot of attendee’s there….it wasn’t ALL about the blogging!

image

image

image

Afterwards my mummy was glad to get out of the big smoke and head home to her family. Her heavy goodie bag slung on her shoulder as she travelled on the stuffy tube back to Waterloo. Her feet were hurting and she was tired. She slept on the train back to Basingstoke.

image

In the evening she enjoyed a date night with Daddy while Grandma babysat, taking on board the comments from the Embrace Happy Session.

image

She attended another local blogging event over the weekend hosted by Festival Place to launch their summer festivities, called the Style Council and had a lovely breakfast while chatting to local bloggers like Louise @northhantsmum, Lara @adventuresofamum and Jenny @JennyCole04. She took away some style tips as well from stylist Melissa Murrell (pictured below).

We had a great day on Fathers Day, the weather was beautiful and it made a stark change from the previous 2 days in the busy city. We had a great day on the farm seeing the animals and enjoyed some outdoor fun at 4 Kingdoms, Newbury. We sat in the sunshine and had ice cream. We reenacted rescuing a princess from a dragon and played hide and seek.

My mummy is so glad she’s home, she’s thankful for the opportunity to go to London and to be a part of the buzzing blogging world and equally thankful for the normality of being a mummy and spending quality time with her family.

Taking me to BritMums

Baby On A Stick

#babyonastick at #BritMumsLive

As some of you will know, my mummy is heading to BritMums Live in London this weekend. It’s a massive conference for parenting and lifestyle bloggers. Sadly I cannot make it, I have a prior engagement with Daddy and CBeebies. *I’ve been waiting weeks for some daddy and daughter only time*

However, my mummy didn’t want me missing out on all the fabulous updates and photo opportunities with other bloggers. So….she is taking me with her….on a stick! Yes, you heard me correctly…my mummy is printing out my face and putting me on a home-made selfie stick so I can appear in all her photos on the days she’s hobnobbing with other bloggers.

#Babyonastick

It means I can participate in the Insta-Walk and get to pose with some of London’s famous landmarks. So keep an eye on our Instagram account and #babyonastick across Twitter and Facebook.

I’m sure my mummy will catch up with me when she returns on Sunday to give me a debrief of the conference, what I missed, who was there etc..

So if you see my mummy walking around with a baby face sticking out of her bag…come over and say hi and get your photo taken with me!

#Babyonastick

Next time I’ll hopefully get to meet you all, but as I can’t string a sentence together yet…its probably for the best (unless you can translate toddler speak).

My mummy will see some of you later!

Love Baby Isabella

My mummy is going to BritMums Live!

My mummy is going to BritMums Live!

Dear mummy, Eeek! What have you got yourself into now…..?

You’ve only gone and won yourself a ticket to BritMums Live 2015! Bloomin Eck! Well done mummy, however slightly jealous I won’t be coming! We came runners-up in the Bella Bathrooms Blogging Competition and won tickets to BritMums Live 2015 and some spending money, which my mummy has already spent on little ol’ me! We were both so chuffed to win and our little blog to be recognised.

Dawn Cameron (@dear_mummy) caught our attention with her blog “Our Monochrome Magic Bathroom” due to the clever writing angle she used. This blog was written from her little girl Bella’s (ironically!!) perspective who wished to create that relaxing haven for her mummy to retreat to. Bella definitely had some wonderful bathroom ideas a lot of mums would appreciate!
By James Chapman who works for Bella Bathrooms

This is the first time my mummy has been to BritMums Live and she’s a bit nervous having been to BlogFest14 and not really having good time there. Oh dear. She hopes this blogging conference will be a bit different…in a good way. She’s a bit more confident in her blogging abilities and has come out of her shell a bit too.

So mummy, being a bit late to the party, with only 2 weeks to go to the event, it’s best you share what you look like before you end up looking like a numpty in the corner nursing a drink on your own. Here’s my mummy. You can’t really miss her! Those black geeky glasses can be seen a mile away. If you see her just say ‘hi’ she won’t bite you, she’s just as nervous as you are!

My mummy

Name – Dawn Cameron-Hollyer (AKA Baby Isabella)
Blog – Dear Mummy Blog
Twitter ID – @dear_mummy
Height – 5’6
Hair – Jet Black
Eyes – Blue
Distinguishing marks – Unicorn tattoo on left wrist

Is this your first blogging conference? This is my mummy’s second blogging conference, the first didn’t go so well… you can read about it here.

Are you attending both days? Hopefully yes, provisions have been made and there are some great speakers on the second day too.

What are you most looking forward to at BritMums Live 2015? My mummy is actually looking forward to the Insta-Walk on the Friday at 12:00, before the event starts with @OneDad3Girls

What are you wearing? Black. My mummy always wears her black skinnies, band tee and a pair of vans.

What do you hope to gain from BritMums Live 2015? My mummy would like to meet new friends and connect with brands.

Do you have any tips to pass on to others who may not have been before? Nope. She’ll be worrying before the event that no-one will speak to her, so a friendly smile is good to break the ice. My mummy is very nervous you see without her baby sidekick. We think it’s a great idea that @OneDad3Girls is doing an Insta-Walk before the event, it means my mummy can just jump off the train and meet the other bloggers under the London Eye. It gives her the opportunity to say hello without being in a pressurised room and take some cool photos.

So now we’ve shared with you, is anyone else going on the Insta-Walk or going to be at BritMums Live on the Friday so she can track you down and say hi? The full BritMums Live agenda has been posted and it looks awesome!

She’s looking forward to seeing some of our online friends and saying hello 🙂

The Star Wars Event at LEGOLAND

The LEGOLAND Star Wars Event

Bank Holiday Monday, May 4, 2015.

Dear Mummy, we visited LEGOLAND in Windsor for the first time over the Bank Holiday weekend and had such a great experience we just had to share it with you. The LEGOLAND Windsor Resort was celebrating Star Wars Day on May 4 with its annual LEGO Star Wars event. Over three days (Saturday 2 May to Monday 4 May) guests from all over the country descended on Windsor and participated in Star Wars themed activities at the park.

LEGOLAND Star Wars Event

We visited on May 4 (May the Fourth…or May the Force) as its referred to by Star Wars lovers. My Daddy is a HUGE Star Wars and LEGO fan and has been waiting since I was born to take me here. LEGOLAND opened in 1996, in Windsor, Berkshire and is operated by the British theme park company Merlin Entertainments. It’s located just down the road for where the Queen lives (or so I’m told) in fact you can see the Queen’s weekend pad from the entrance hill at LEGOLAND. There are currently twelve areas in the park, including: The Beginning, Imagination Centre, Miniland, Duplo Land, Traffic, LEGO City, Land of the Vikings, Kingdom of the Pharaohs, Pirates Shores, Knights Kingdom, and Adventure Land with a new area opening up very shortly called Heartlake City! It is the largest LEGOLAND park in the world. Oooer I say!

Star Wars Event at Legoland

My mummy gets a corporate discount from her work, so luckily it was half price for her and daddy. Under 3’s are free, so I enjoyed a free day out. Even with my mummy’s corporate discount it still worked out at £28 per adult which is expensive for us. So we were determined to make the most out of the day. We arrived early and even at 10:30am the car parks were half full! Woweee mummy, this place sure is popular! We don’t know whether it was Star Wars Day and the event had brought people here..or whether it was the bright bank holiday sunshine, but we were ready to fight the crowds and have a good time. We spent 15 minutes queuing for a space and once we had parked up mummy and daddy waited for me to wake up, as I had a sneaky nap in the car from Basingstoke to Windsor. We took the buggy today as we’d heard from friends that it was a little ‘hilly’ in places and a long old day for a toddler. Bringing a buggy was the best decision we’d made. The walk from the green field car park to the entrance was a bit of a slog and we queued for the Advance Ticket sales for another 15 minutes.

By the time we went through the barriers it was after 11am. We were also fast tracked through a special gate just for buggies too which saved us a lot of queuing time and we were very thankful. On receiving our tickets we were given a map of the park and a Star Wars Event planner, which listed the attractions and timings over the course of the Bank Holiday. Daddy’s LEGO building skills were put to the test as he joined in a big build to make a giant LEGO Star Wars Ewok mosaic from thousands of individual bricks. We didn’t come in costume, however loads of visitors did to enter the daily LEGO Star Wars Costume Competition.

LEGOLAND Star Wars Event

We watched the crowds rush down the hill to the theme park rides, however there was no queue at the first attraction on entrance, which was the Star Wars LEGO Exhibition (Miniland model display) and it was the main reason we came here for, so we jumped at the chance. We went straight in and enjoyed looking at all the Star Wars film scenes made out of LEGO. It was great and we loved the interactivity element too. I had fun pressing the buttons making the exhibitions come to life. We watched the Millennium Falcon take flight, the Ewoks in the forest, some of the battles and took full advantage of all the photo opportunities. My daddy was in his element. We weren’t rushed and it wasn’t busy, so we all enjoyed it. In some places the exhibition was dark and moody and my mummy was impressed with the light displays and music, we’ve seen some LEGO Exhibitions before…but this one was the best yet!

Continuing on from the Star Wars LEGO Exhibition we went on the hunt for the costumed characters. We followed the path down the hill and into the theme park. The view was stunning and we could see right to Heathrow Airport and Windsor Castle. We didn’t stop at any of the non-Star Wars activities or rides, as we weren’t here for those today. Our main mission was seeking out the Rebel Legion and offering them our support against the evil Empire….AKA the UK Garrison costumed characters. When I’m a bit bigger, over 0.9m actually, I’d love to go back and check out some of the theme park rides. This isn’t a full review of Legoland, just a review of the Star Wars Event. We bumped into a lot of Mandalorians and stopped to have our photos taken with them. We scouted the theme park and got our bearings. This would be needed for future reconnaissance missions. We bypassed Pirates Shores, Knights Kingdom and made a beeline for where I knew I could have a play…Duplo Land. We walked through a new area called Heartlake City, which looked a bit “Disney”. Stopped to watch a pirate stunt show while we were there and have an ice cream. In the end we did a massive circuit of the whole park in a couple of hours, trying to spot as many Star Wars Characters as we could. Once we were satisfied we stopped at the entrance where we had begun and had lunch in the main cafe on the hill. Right next to us UK Garrison with Darth Vader and numerous Storm Troopers stopped for photos so we watched them while we ate. It was great entertainment seeing how they interacted with the public. Fair play.

Star Wars Event at Legoland

After lunch we aimlessly wandered around the park, we headed to the Enchanted Forest which was transformed into a mysterious Ewok Village. Smoke machines added to the drama of this hidden realm. Luckily we saw one Ewok by a tree stump – then he just disappeared! Mid afternoon we sunbathed on the Lawn and watched the young Jedi’s training. Even though it was busy, it didn’t feel claustrophobic and there was plenty of space to sit down and watch the world go by. It was very cool… watching all the Star Wars Characters and visitors walking around in full costume, reenacting scenes from the films. In fact it was one of the best experiences my mummy has ever had at a theme park, pushing the buggy around she never felt harassed or in the way of others as the paths were wide and the crowds were sparse with no choke points. LEGO Miniland, a model village which includes models of landmarks and scenes from around the world made from millions of LEGO bricks was great to look at and we spent a long time spotting little LEGO people.

LEGOLAND Star Wars Event

Only at the end of the day, when everyone gathered to watch the 4pm Star Wars Procession did it get busy, everyone in the park lined the parade route to get a look at all the Star Wars characters in their full glory. We watched the 501st UK Garrison in a Character March which began at Heartlake City, passed LEGO City and fished at Pirate Shores. We stood just outside the Fire Academy on the main drag to get the best view. This was the busiest it got and it was worth jostling for prime position as the parade was fab. A really good atmosphere and well worth the wait and crowds after. It seemed that everyone else had also waited to see the parade before heading home, so it was like a mass exodus leaving the park.

We’d been at Legoland for over 5 hours and definitely got our monies worth. Even though we hadn’t been on any of the rides we thought it was good value for money, however if we’d been full paying visitors we’d probably would have wanted to go on all the rides and see everything. We can’t wait to go back when I’m big enough to go on the rides and see everything and do a full review of the park.

LEGOLAND Star Wars Event

Thanks Rebel Legion and UK Garrison! We had a fab time at LEGOLAND mainly because of you. The LEGOLAND staff we came across were friendly and polite which helped. They looked like they enjoyed their work which radiated when they spoke to customers. Even at the end of the day the toilets were clean and we were really impressed with the family facilities at the new Heartlake City area. Great job.

LEGOLAND we will be back!

Getting my pamper on!

Getting my pamper on.

We ain’t talking about nappies!

Lala & Bea set

Lala & Bea Skincare products

An interesting package arrived through the post for us over the Easter Weekend and it wasn’t an Easter Egg! In fact it was much better than that.

My own spa package! I maybe only 2 years old but it’s worth paying attention to ones skin! 😉

A lovely selection of children’s products from the fab Lala & Bea have been sent through for us to review.

Lala & Bea Nourishing Balm

Lala & Bea Organic Nourishing Balm

It includes an Organic Nourish Balm, which comes in a handy travel size tin. My mummy has a balm and I see her use it on herself from time to time, but now I have my own.

You see it’s been specially formulated for children using the best of everything! Free from synthetically produced parabens (that’s a chemical filler that stops bacteria growing in cosmetics to me and you) and using only natural ingredients like Rosehip seed oil which helps sooth and soften skin.

Lala&Bea balm

Lovely balm

I’ve used it on my bottom and tops of my arms as they get itchy and sore. It puts a smile on my face and it smells heavenly! Even my mummy nabbed it for her flaky elbows and chapped lips urgh! I saw her admiring her appearance in the mirror yesterday!

I next clapped eyes on the Organic Nourishing Oil, a calming and relaxing massage oil. But before I know it mummy’s snatched it from my grip “Yes!” My mummy shouts, one for her! This is the only adult only product in Lala & Bea’s range as it contains aromatherapy oils which are perfect for adults but too strong for babies. It also contains Rosehip Seed Oil, Oat Oil and Vitamin E. My mummy is going to get daddy to rub it into her shoulder tonight because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Ooer I say! 😉 it also smells very ‘spa-like’ a lovely little treat for my mummy.

Lala & Bea Baby Oil

Lala & Bea Organic Baby Oil

I too have my own Baby Massage & Bath Oil. O.M.Gosh the loveliest smelling product out of the lot! If we could put a scratch and sniff into this post we would. Trust us. Amazing smell. My mummy runs it under hot running water for my ‘spa’ bath. It is naturally hypoallergenic and contains a whole host of antioxidants. It’s Very luxurious! The Baby Massage & Bath Oil also contains Roman Camomile oil, Jojoba plant extracts, Vitamins A,D and E. All these wonderful oils help with softening my skin, moisturising it and making me feel very relaxed and…..sleepy. A perfect bath before bed. The smell wafting up from the hot bath water also makes daddy relaxed and calm, great for a stress free bedtime routine.

Magic sleep spray

Magic sleep spray

Last but not least, finishing our wonderful ‘spa-like’ treatments with Lala&Bea, the whole family has a spritz of the ‘Sleep Tight Pillow Spray’. Not just for us babies you see, my mummy suggests that daddy sprays it onto his pillow too. You see he hasn’t been sleeping that well and because this contains Lavender and Ylang Ylang it helps to induce a sleep like coma (well his Vodka and Coke probably helped as well 😉 joking aside the smell from the sheets is VERY relaxing.

A lot of products here from the Lala&Bea range and what we’re most impressed with is their attitude. Their philosophy is great and we’re also firm believers in trying to source products that are made in the UK, helping to support local businesses and cutting down environmental impact. The design and pakageing is simple but eye catching as they let their products do the talking and we are listening….if we can keep our eyes open long enough not to……Zzzzzzzz.

Baby Spa

Rubbing my lotions and potions on!

If you want to feel relaxed and use top quality skincare for babies and adults then this is the place for you. Yes the prices are expensive but you get what you pay for and who doesn’t deserve a little treat once in a while.
Go on give yourself a spa treatment at home today! All you need is someone willing to rub your back!

Mummy…..?

My weekend in pictures

Dear mummy, last weekend was such a whirlwind and what better way to showcase it than through images! We’ve linked up for the first time with @snowingindoors (who knows a thing or two about photography) and @youbabymemummy for ‘Point and Click’. We love trying out new Linkys and it gives my mummy and I a great opportunity to virtually meet up and comment on other bloggers posts too 🙂

My weekend in pictures If you haven’t heard my mummy attended #Blogfest at the weekend in the big smoke. London always lends itself to photo opportunities and mummy wasn’t disappointed when she reached Kings Cross and saw this giant poppy! She took my turtle on an adventure and he loved the tube. She was overwhelmed by the response to her post about Blogfest and here are some of the photos which were taken during the day too.

She’s already used her #clearaplate in support of Project Sunlight and filtered through her Blogfest goodie bag which was amazing (she’s currently eating the chocolate while writing this post) My mummy has also reviewed her notes from Blogfest with the view to put into practice some of the wise tips shared on the day.

My weekend in pictures 1

Sunday was a complete contrast to the previous day, my mummy was no longer in the industrial capital but infact outdoors at The Vyne, National Trust, which is our home away from home and the best woodland playground a little kid like me could ask for.

My weekend in pictures 3

It’s our local haunt and we’ve been many times as it’s just down the road from us. We loved finding all the ‘fire’ leaves as my mummy likes to call them, the gorgeous red and burnt orange leaves which are scattered on our walk. They are so beautiful and we couldn’t resist taking photos of them.

My weekend in pictures 4

We’re at home in the outdoors as a family, it’s the one place where we are truly free, we love mud, puddles and mucking around and hope these photos capture that!

lots of love Bella x

My first time at BlogFest 14

My first time at BlogFest 14

Dear mummy, pheweee! What a weekend! It’s been non-stop and not the relaxing weekend we hoped for at all. My mummy attended her first Mumsnet BlogFest on Saturday in the big smoke and came back feeling mixed about the whole thing. Why you may ask? It’s not as if she paid to go, surely it’s like looking a gift horse in the mouth? My mummy is not ungrateful at all and had a lovely, quick catch up with her fairy godmother Karen @Minitravllers to say thank you for the free ticket and she passed on her thanks to Alice @skimlinks too.

Travelling to BlogFest 14However, she came back with a feeling like she didn’t belong in this world of professional blogging. It all started at the beginning of the day, butterflies in her tummy on the cold dark platform waiting to get the train up to London, leaving me behind for the whole day and feeling guilty for doing that. She wasn’t off to a great start and was worried about what she was letting herself into. Thankfully she met another fellow blogger at Waterloo, Amy, who was nervous about crossing London on the tube and getting lost, so mummy offered to help her navigate the dark tunnels of London.

It all seemed a bit rushed and hectic as she joined up with some more mummy bloggers at Kings Cross station, they seemed friendly enough, even though they hadn’t planned to meet her and hadn’t a clue who the hell my mummy was! Awkward smiles and exchanges about the event were made, but my mummy still felt out of the loop and that she was hanging onto other people’s groups of friends. It was like being back at school and my mummy didn’t like it, she felt like the odd one out – on the fringe, so broke away trying to find other bloggers who were on were on their own and strike up a conversation. Blogfest was held at Kings Place and was massive and as she travelled down the escalators my mummy was overwhelmed by how busy it was.Entrance to BlogfestMumsnet had laid on coffee, tea and pastries but she hardly had a tea or anything before the breakfast session was over and everyone was ushered into the main hall for the welcome talk. It’s was so busy and the air was buzzing, lots of chatter and laughing, tweeting and photographs were taken.

For the first time mummy felt like she was part of something important but maybe still out of her depth. See, my mummy is only a part-time blogger, it’s not her intention to take her blogging to the ‘next level’ or to make a profession out of it like some others she met. She felt like a fraud too, my mummy is not a writer, she’s bad at grammar and spelling. Afterwards she came out of the main hall feeling suffocated by expectation and pressure. At least she could go and hide in the next session ‘Getting more from Google+’ she anticipated that it would be empty as everyone surely would want to attend the ‘Masterclass in Making Money from your Blog’? See my mummy isn’t really that fussed about making money from this blog *shock horror* you may not believe it, but this really is a hobby. (That phase was repeated over and over again during the course of the day to people’s disbelief) The Google+ session was going to be interesting as mummy wanted to know the power of it and what all the fuss was about. She wasn’t disappointed James Dearsley was fantastic and gave a brief but brilliant overview of Google+ in a simple and visual way.

Sessions at BlogfestMy mummy was dying for a drink afterwards and a bit of a break after absorbing ‘too much input Stephanie’, so started to queue to get a her nails done and soak up the atmosphere while the majority of the bloggers went into the ‘Think Bombs’ session on the main hall. It was nice and quite out here on the mezzanine level, she watch staff set up the yummy lunch and stopped by the TalkTalk stand.

Before she knew it the masses descended on the mezzanine and foyer area for lunch. The decimal level increased and the chatting reached fever pitch. My mummy takes after my Grandma and likes to talk, however she dodged all the large circles of giggling bloggers drinking mulled wine in their clicky groups, others taking selfies and felt very alone, surrounded by so many people.

Thankfully @Vaichin at Rambling Through Parenthood struck up a conversation in the Nail Bar queue and my mummy and her found some solidarity in being on their own and not in a large group. The queue was short when we joined, see my mummy NEVER gets her nails done, so this was a real treat and was the perfect excuse to people watch. She chatted to some other ladies, but never got their names as they whizzed past only stopping to perch for lunch at the glass table next to her. Finally after an hour plus wait my mummy got her nails done and it was worth the wait, they looked awesome and WAHLondon did a fab job, maybe next time they could do with some more technicians as there was a lot of disappointed bloggers waiting who never got served. My mummy grazed on her lunch (as she didn’t really feel hungry) and before she knew it is was time for the next breakout session ‘Advanced Social Media’ with the witty and fast talking Paul Armstrong in the main hall. My mummy really enjoyed this session and was amazed at Paul’s knowledge on new trends and platforms in social media, she really felt she was getting the inside track on TSU and Hello Bar. She took lots of notes. I looked at them last night and couldn’t make head or tail of them, her shorthand is awful!!

Stands at BlogfestShe bum-shuffled up another seat to get a better view on the next masterclass ‘How to be a YouTube Star’ she was intrigued with what all the fuss was about with Vlogging and was even brave enough to ask Kate Rushworth a question, her hand shaking holding the microphone.

Afterwards it was Afternoon Tea and Cake, this is the part my mummy didn’t really enjoy as it was the start of the ‘back turning’. My mummy was trying to engage with other people, by this time in the day, circles had formed, mulled wine was consumed and people didn’t seemed that interested in mingling. She felt disheartened. After a smile from my mummy gets rejected by a passerby, my mummy slinks off to the corner of the mezzanine level to hide by the Coca-Cola stand, again, not the wisest move, the girls at the stand were unfriendly and pretentious, looking down their noses while my mummy was trying to be nice and talk to them..anyone. She felt so alone at this point. Thankfully her smile wasn’t wasted on @snowingindoors who took her under her wing. They had the same sense of humour!Masterclass at BlogfestAt last the final sessions were about to start and it this stage my mummy was about ready to go home. This was the session that everyone was looking forward to. ‘The Power of Writing’ my mummy arrived late and wanted to get a good seat so foxtrotted over to the front.

Meanwhile, throughout the majority of the day, a ‘ninja’ blogger called @needaphone had been tweeting my mummy, playing silly buggers and making her feel at ease. A lot of banter was shared and some stifled laughs during the keynote speeches saw shoulders rising and falling, glances and tweets of ‘what are you wearing?’ My mummy enjoyed listening to Harriet Kane and Nick Hornby, while the tweeting exchange carried on.

Finally after Power of Writing session my mummy finally caught up with her. @needaphond was actually not a cat as the Twitter profile suggests but in fact Claire and she was great fun. My mummy sat next to her through the very funny and entertaining Lucy Porter closing speech. Through Claire my mummy met bloggers and tweeter extrodinaires Oliver’s MadhouseYou baby me mummy, pigeonpairandme she enjoyed a quick gin (or two) and hung out briefly discussing the day and her first impressions of Blogfest before heading back to Kings Cross in the rain with a overpacked goodie bag of treats with ramblingthroughparenthood.

So in hindsight did my mummy enjoy this event? Yes for networking it was a great opportunity, but you have to be thick-skinned and confident in yourself and your blog to chat and carry a conversation. Sometimes if you have nothing to offer people or nothing in common a lot of the more established bloggers seem to get a bit turnt off. Which is a shame as we all had to start somewhere right? Will I be returning next year? I don’t know, probably not if the cost stays the same. Blogging events don’t seem to be part of our world yet, they may never be and my mummy may never feel comfortable attending another one and we have to ask the question is it worth the stress?

When my mummy got back from the big smoke she felt guilty, even though she was triumphant about being out of her comfort zone, she felt drained and at a lost. Today was a much better day, she was back in her comfort zone playing with me and daddy while we were out on one of our adventures. This is our world….professional blogging/networking may have to wait.

Cinderella will go to the BlogFest Ball!

Cinderella will go to the BlogFest Ball!

Dear mummy, eek! I’m so happy for you! A lovely fellow blogger over at MiniTravellers won a ticket to Mumsnet BlogFest via a competition online and gave it to you! This doesn’t happen to us, it’s like something out of a dream. I’ve known for quite a while that you wanted to go to BlogFest, but you couldn’t justify the price to daddy and yourself.

CinderellaYou’d rather the ticket money go on a family day out or for me to be treated to something special. It’s not cheap you know! At £95 a ticket, a lot of fellow bloggers can’t afford it either. However, it’s well worth the price for what you get in return… A chance to meet fellow bloggers in person (all together) when you wouldn’t ordinarily meet your online friends, attending specialist talks which will help you learn ‘the way of the blog’ Yoda style, listening to guest speakers such as Nick Hornby, whose books and films you grew up with and hobnobbing with large national companies. It’s the biggest blogger networking event on the planet (well in our world it is).

BlogFest14Until yesterday you were down in the mouth, trying to dodge happy and overjoyed bloggers which managed to grab BlogFest tickets, thinking how lucky they were…..now you are one of them. I know part of you feels guilty for going away to London and having a day to yourself to immerse yourself in something you love so much. I know you will talk a lot about me, well, I am the reason you blog aren’t I? Unfortunately I’m too young to attend, I am the youngest blogger I know at 1+yrs, surely that’s an ice breaker. I don’t want you to be nervous as a newbie blogger going to your first BlogFest, hold your head up high, everyone is in the same boat, nervous about meeting strangers… Some of them you’ve chatted with for months!

I know you will be looking for one blogger in particular, your fairy godmother, the one that made your BlogFest dream come true…Karen from MiniTravellers. There are many other people you’d like to meet too, it’s just finding out what they look like and chatting.

Isabella's PAI recommend take a photo of me and some business cards, until I’m old enough to come with you I trust you with my reputation and to act like my PA.

Me and my mummyOne word of advice….enjoy yourself and let your hair down…and remember to come back home to me and Daddy! I don’t want you getting too big for your blogging boots and staying in the big smoke! Remember humble beginnings and why you are blogging, not for commercial gain or sponsored posts but because you love sharing what we get up to and showing the love to people, stuff and places we meet along our adventures. Our blog will always be an online scrapbook of memories to look back on when I am older and you are gone.

I love you mummy, I know I can’t verbally tell you all the time but I can write it.

My Trendy Thursday (well Monday…actually)

My Trendy Thursday (well Monday…actually)

21.07.14

We’re a bit late for joining in with Alexandra at www.medicatedfollower.com for her weekly feature showcasing some of social media’s best dressed little people. Doh! As we’ve been all over the place, travelling up and down the South Coast. We’ve been to Portsmouth, London and Dorking during the course of the weekend. On Friday we were on location at BizzyKidz studio in London to update my portfolio pictures for the modelling agency. I wore a super comfy playsuit from Baby Gap which was perfect on this hot stuffy day.

Bella at BizzyKidzBaby Gap are also running a summer sale at present and this is one of the items they have reduced. It has easy poppers and is made out of super lightweight cotton. It’s one of my favourite pieces and I love the denim and little ditsy floral print. Credit goes to Daniella at BizzyKidz studio for taking this fantastic photo, she’s a very talented photographer. We had a fab time dancing around the lighting rigs and playing with the props, let’s just hope it leads to some bookings 🙂 The agency has a lovely family feel about it and we would recommend them as a child model agency. The staff are friendly and accommodating. BizzyKidz also have a great success rate and work with a number of large organisations.

Fingers crossed we can get a job, as I love the camera darrrrling! Hehe 😉

Our travels continue as my little fingers can’t keep up with typing, so stay posted for our review on the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, visiting Polesden Lacey in Dorking and generally having a whale of a time in the sunshine.

Digital Revolution at The Barbican, London

Digital Revolution at The Barbican, London

http://www.barbican.org.uk

The BarbicanSomething slightly different on the blog today. Mummy visited the Digital Revolution exhibition at The Barbican in London last week. A greatly anticipated event which had been on my mummy’s radar for some time. It was listed on Time Outs 10 Top Things to do in London last week.

The Barbican is Europe’s largest multi-arts venue showcasing art, music, theatre, dance, film and supporting creative learning. It looks like a plush cinema when you enter and ‘creatives’ fill the foyer on their trendy laptops and smartphones, working and having meetings.

We’ve traded the outdoors for indoors as we explored all things digital. Digital Revolution brings together artists, film-makers, CGI specialists, game designers, musicians (such as Will.i.am) and architects. Wow mummy! This exhibition looks really interesting, even for a non-geek like me! It’s an interactive show, so ‘do not touch’ doesn’t apply here! My kinda place!

Digital pets! Is this in our future?

The Petting Zoo at Digital RevolutionAs we walk into the Barbican we are greeted with a hub of activity, people are staring at something in the walkway near the entrance to the exhibition and ticket desk. On first glance it looks like hanging celling lights with funky LED lights, but as we walk past it, it follows us. Ooooo spooky! We realise that this is actually part of the exhibition called the Petting Zoo by Minimaforms who are an architecture and design studio.

It’s three giant robotic pet snakes which have the ability to adapt to their environment, mimic and touch their audience. The robotic installation of artificial intelligent creatures are designed to learn and explore behaviours through interaction with the public. It seems very alien. They love the attention and mummy spends a great deal of time playing with theses giant snakes. They follow her hand and shy away as she plays peek-a-boo with them. I think, artificial intelligence? Surely this is the rise of Skynet?? I’m worried.

The curve at Digital RevolutionsAs we turn to gain entry to the exhibition, we hear a familiar voice walk past us, mummy looks and is starstruck….it’s none other than the most famous musician/male pop artist in the charts Will.i.am. Wow! He looks just like he does in telly, my mummy thinks, grinning from ear to ear! He’s here to ensure his installation PYRAMIDI is running smoothly and to gauge public feedback on this opening day.

It’s further in the exhibition, so we make a note to visit it. He disappears into a lift with his mates and we, completely awestruck, head into the main exhibition. It’s very dark in here…….as we enter what as know as The Curve part of the Barbican, we are transformed into a world of large digital screens, the gentle humming from computer screens and lots of computer geeks playing on games consoles like PAC Man and Space Invaders. My mummy feels very nostalgic.

It’s like a computer museum, charting our digital past, cataloging early computers, digital artworks, video game cult classics and really old CGI footage.

However it has a computer expo feel about it and people are shuffling from one light box to another. It’s cramped and overwhelming, too much input Stephanie! We don’t spend long in the first part of The Curve.

Creative Spaces

Gravity filmmakingNext on the list is something that we really must see…it’s called Creative Spaces, a behind the scenes look at films like Gravity and Inception. We are immersed in large screens taking us through the visual effects from Oscar Award winners Tim Webber at Framestone and Paul Franklin at Double Negative. We watch how they use different techniques from CGI and filming rigs to light boxes and robotic cameras to make these blockbuster movies.

Music makes the world go round

We move forward in the exhibition and suddenly we are ushered through a red velvet curtain in to a small dark room.

We realise it’s to see Will.i.am’s installation PYRAMIDI. Music pumps through the speakers and the wall comes to life with an animated visual backdrop. This Sound & Vision part of the exhibition explores how emerging technologies have changed the way we experience music.

Will.i.am PYRAMIDIHere you’ll find a 6ft tall 3D animated head of Will.i.am, created using projection mapping that follows you around the room, alongside three robot instruments performing his newly commissioned song ‘Dreamin’ About the Future’, it’s a collaborative project created with Yuri Suzuki.

In this section there is also interactive and computer generated music videos which you can watch and listen too.

I believe in angels

Next up is a showcase of electronic artists who are well-versed in computer code. Using their talents to translate boring code and numbers into something visually beautiful.

My mummy with wingsA stand out exhibit in the State of Play section was Chris Milk’s The Treachery of Sanctuary. My mummy’s always wanted to have wings…and in this interactive exhibit she gets the chance. Gesture control and camera technologies are used in this interactive shadow play piece of artwork.

My mummy stood infront of the white screens and was amazed how her arms transformed into wings. A bit like Kinect on the XBOX or Wii Sports.

But far more sophisticated and beautiful than that. My mummy loved it and it was spectacular to watch her shadow fly away up into the air.

Mirror Mirror on the wall…

Spooky mirrorIn the next room a creepy mirror hung on the wall, like one you would find in a fairground House of Fun. It’s by Rafael Loranzo-Hemmer called The Year’s Midnight. My mummy had fun playing around with this interactive mirror. A camera is positioned to one side and locks onto your face as you stand in front of your reflection.

It triggers an animation within the mirror (which is actually a cleverly disguised screen) and plumes of white smoke pours out of your eyes, it’s clever and we spend a great deal of time mucking around with it.

We also dance around in front of Daniel Rozin’s real-time sketchy Mirror No. 10 as our reflections are sketched in front of us, like a Photoshop filter.

Digital Revolution ticketsWe head downstairs after visiting the Indie Games Space, where mummy challenges her friends to some old fashioned platform games. She loses gracefully claiming she’s out of practice.

We then are plunged again into darkness as we walk into the unique three-dimensional light field where we manipulate and dance around beams of lasers and luminous forms.

It’s very intense with smoke machines and lots of lasers and feels like we’ve entered a laser quest game. I’m half expecting someone to come out with a laser pack/gun and zap us.

We’ve been in for nearly two hours! As we leave the Barbican the bright sunshine hurts our eyes, seems like we’ve been indoors all day and in a different world. This is just a brief overview of our experience at the exhibition, it’s definitely worth a visit and teenagers would love it! The Digital Revolution exhibition goes on until the 14th September 2014.
